With the theme of "serving national strategies and empowering with innovative statistics", the competition was launched in March 2026 and attracted 18,727 teams from 909 institutions across the country to the provincial stage. After provincial selection and national correspondence review, only 150 teams advanced to the on-site defence at the national finals. The team from the School of Mathematics, Physics and Statistics won one National First Prize and one National Third Prize with solid research results and an excellent on-site performance, and the National First Prize is the first our university has ever won in this competition.

The School integrates the cultivation of statistical modeling ability into its talent development system, offering dedicated practical training courses and building a standing competition preparation team, and provides participating students with full-process mentoring and all-round resource support, forming a full-chain educational path of "foundation through courses, reinforcement through practical training and refinement through competition". The National College Student Statistical Modeling Competition is organized by the China Statistical Education Society with the aim of guiding students to deepen the application of statistical theory and improve their comprehensive ability in data mining, data analysis and the use of statistical methods to solve practical problems. It is a national-level discipline competition with considerable influence in the field of statistics in China.
