The results of the 2026 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) have been released. The School of Mathematics, Physics and Statistics entered 26 teams and won a Finalist award together with several other prizes. This is the first time our university has reached the Finalist level in this international modeling contest, marking a historic breakthrough. According to public data, only about 1.4% of all participating teams receive the Finalist award. The winning team, composed of Hong Jiale, Gu Bingbing and Hao Xudong and supervised by Professor Su Shuhua, earned this honour for the university. Hong Jiale is a 2025-entry student of the Data Computation and Application programme, and his performance demonstrates the effectiveness of the programme's talent development.

Among our university's seven winning teams, students of the Data Computation and Application programme took part in three awards, reflecting the programme's marked effectiveness in mathematical modeling, algorithm design and practical application. Organized by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP) and launched in 1985, the MCM/ICM is the only international mathematical modeling contest and the most influential one worldwide. The 2026 edition attracted 32,213 teams from 28 countries and regions, with more than 93,977 participating students.
