On the afternoon of November 6th, the School of Mathematics, Physics and Statistics invited Professor Sun Jie from Curtin University to have an exchange on the construction of disciplines and majors. Prof. Wang Guoqiang, Dean of the School of Mathematics, Physics and Statistics, Assoc. Prof. Zheng Zhongtuan, Vice Dean of the School, and some teachers of the Department of Applied Statistics participated in the activity, and exchanged views on the construction of undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines and majors.

Prof. Wang introduced the development history, talent training and discipline construction of the School, and hoped to further develop cooperation with Curtin University to promote the exchanges between teachers and students and the construction of disciplines. Prof. Sun reviewed the current challenges and opportunities facing higher education, and stressed the importance of discipline construction inimproving the quality of education and scientific research. He pointed out that discipline construction is not only the focus of academic research, but also an important way to train high-quality talents and promote social progress. He proposed that discipline construction should focus on interdisciplinary integration and innovation, and encourage teachers and students from both sides to exchange and cooperate in different fields, so as to cultivate talents with more comprehensive qualities. Prof. Sun had an in-depth discussion with the faculty of our School and put forward many constructive comments and suggestions on the current development of disciplines.

This activity not only provided new ideas and directions for the construction of our School's disciplines and majors, but also further promoted the cooperation between our School and Curtin University. The School will continue to promote the in-depth development of the construction of disciplines and make unremitting efforts to train more outstanding talents.
