On Oct.27th, Prof. Kok Lay Teo of Sunway University (Malaysia) gave an online presentation to the teachers and students in the Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES). Prof. Wang Guoqiang (Vice Dean of the School of Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics) hosts the meeting.

Prof. Teo introduces the five dimensions of the time-delay estimation via dynamic optimization techniques, including optimal time-delay control problem, non-linear time-delay system, noise output issue, non-linear input time-delay problem, an empirical study in chemical research. In the presentation, Prof. Teo combines the time-delay theory with the spread of Covid-19, which helps the audiences better understand the research frontier of the optimal control field. Teachers and students have a deeper understanding of the hot spot in this research field.

Prof. Teo is the Associate Dean for the School of Mathematical Science (Sunway University, Malaysia), the John Curtin Distinguished Emeritus Professor (Curtin University, Australia), Distinguished Professor for the Co-Innovation Center for Computable Modeling in Management Science (Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, China). He got his Ph.D. degree from the University of Ottawa, Canada. He was the Chair of the Applied Mathematics Department (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong) from 1998 to 2005. He was the Chair for the School of Mathematics and Statistics Department (Curtin University, Australia) from 2005 to 2010. Prof. Teo’s research focuses on optimized control, optimization theory and application, communication signal processing, financial optimized decision theory. His publications include six books, 500 SCI papers. He leads the development of the MISER 3.3 package designed to solve non-linear optimized control problems. He is the chief editor for the Journal of Industrial and Management Optimization. He is also the editor for Automatica, JOGO, and JOTA.
